1 Thing.org is a grass-root, volunteer-run organisation founded during COVID-19 to stop anti-Asian hate crimes and racism. The organisation has a mission of “act, share, inspire”, which encourages people to do one thing at a time that eventually, can create a big impact.

The design system takes on the idea of decentralisation, and how 1 Thing.org is all about making things actionable. Through a series of research, we found out that the Asian community is more likely to participate in social justice when the positivity of their actions is highlighted, rather than focusing too much on the brutal reality of the hate crimes themselves. Hence, a visual system around circle motifs is built to reflect the inclusiveness and positivity of 1 Thing.org.

Being used as a container, bullet points, confetti or pattern, the circle motif is defined as a collective effort, individuals joining force to create a change, and a friendly community. And with the combination of other ownable assets, the overall look and feel of the design system is made to be warm, human and inspiring.
