Buta No Hon is a booklet I designed with a prompt of making a tool that
addresses on the issue of "how to", and the theme of this booklet is
"how to become a pig".
I would like to discuss how mankind builds an egocentric society and how
we consider other species as pieces we can control. What are "pets"?
What are "livestocks"? If we are the ones being dominated, how will
things be like? I am not a vegetarian or against the consumption of
animals in any way, so this is not a book suggesting people should not
eat pork at all. Instead, I would like to address this issue with a
twisted tone and make it funny and awkward at the same time.
The book introduces a step-step progress of a human becoming a pig, and
finally get killed and consumed by other humans. Everything is
self-wished, as advertised on the packaging. I come up with
illustrations that don't look very serious while typeset texts in serif
to create a weird juxtaposition. The bigger issue this project addresses
is whether we are taking things for granted and assuming a myth of human
domination while not being able to think how we get to such top place in
the food chain.
